This is Big Tree Country. The Hermitage for woodland walks amongst some of the tallest trees in Scotland-
cared for the nation by the National Trust. Birnam Oak Visit Loch of the Lowes, see the breeding ospreys from the seclusion of the hide, only 150m from the nest tree. Red squirrels and woodpeckers often visit the bird feeders outside the Visitor Centre.
Nice drives around Loch Tay, and Loch Tummel-you are likely to see wild red deer on the hills. If not pop into Glengoulandie Deer Park half way up the glen for more assured sightings of these majestic beasts.
In Aberfeldy is the Black Watch Memorial, a regiment commissioned by King Charles in 1667 to be a
'guard for securing the peace in the Highlands. Their dark coloured tartans led them to be known as the
'Black Watch' Crossing the River Tay is one of General Wade's fine arch bridges built in 1733,
the only one still in use today, part of a network of military roads linking the Highlands.
